Slacking (Mega Catch-Up Blogpost)

Hi Guys,

So as you can probably guess by the title this is the post of posts, and will hopefully catch me up right the way back for September until today.

We have covered many topics up until now, right through; learning styles, differentiation, classroom management, micro-teaching, constructivism, behaviorism, humanism, and plenty more that my brain will not allow me to remember on a Sunday morning.

The first micro-teach i did back in 2008, was on the subject of HTML, and seemed to go very well. Time management, classroom management and paperwork were all fine, then after having more tuition my second micro-teach which took place in early 2009 seemed to be an unmitigated disaster!

The time management issue was horrendous, and the paperwork was really great (over 3 hours) just not over 20 minutes. It seems that i had picked too broad a topic and approached it in the wrong way. I had attempted to use the students' own knowledge of human computer interfaces (which i would have done in a computing class) and as the class was not a computing class in a computing setting this method failed quite spectacularly.

The advice i was given was to attempt the same session but almost turn it on its head, instead of asking the class where they had seen any HCI before, tell them where they had seen HCI before.

More recently i have had my first observation, which was carried out by Nora Lynam on 18th March 2009 and the feedback i got was incredibly positive. The main criticism of the observation was that i used too many closed questions however i asked enough of them.

The Friday after this 20th March 2009 i had my school obervationwith Philip Lawrenson Chettoe, and have yet to receive my feedback for this.

This pretty much covers everything we have done over the past 6 months, and from now on i will try and post a blog every week (or fortnight).
